Computer Repair Questions?

We’ve answered some of the most common questions we hear about computer repair, laptop repair, virus removal, data recovery, tune-ups, and other services at our Downingtown repair shop.

Getting Service

Nope. Walk-ins are welcome (and encouraged!) during normal business hours, and no appointment is needed for computer repair services. Simply bring your computer, laptop, or device into our Downingtown repair shop, and we'll help you get started.

Absolutely. All of our customers simply walk into the shop without an appointment (some do call first, but we just tell them to come in). Whether your computer is running slow, won't turn on, has a virus, or needs repair, just bring it in and we'll help determine the next steps.

For most repairs, bring your computer or laptop and its charger if available. If you're experiencing a specific issue, any details about error messages, pop-ups, or unusual behavior can be helpful. Don't worry if you're not sure how to explain the problem, we'll help figure it out.

Our repair shop is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. Walk-ins are welcome during business hours. If you can't make it during the day, ask about our after-hours pickup and local pickup/delivery options.

Yes. While most repairs are completed at our Downingtown shop, we also offer home visits for certain situations, including WiFi issues, printer setup, desktop computers, and customers who prefer in-home service.

Yes. We offer local pickup and delivery services for customers who can't make it to the shop. This service is especially popular with seniors, busy professionals, and customers without transportation. Additional fees apply.

Yes. A friend, family member, spouse, or coworker can drop off your computer for you. As long as they can provide basic information about the problem and your contact information, we'll take it from there.

U-neek Computer Repair is located in Downingtown, PA and serves customers from Exton, West Chester, Chester Springs, Thorndale, Coatesville, Lionville, and surrounding Chester County communities.

Yes. We have convenient parking directly outside our repair shop. There are plenty of spaces in our private lot with a flat entrance to our first-floor lobby.  Just pull in, bring your computer inside, and we'll help you get started.

Pricing & Repairs

The cost of computer repair depends on the problem, the parts required, and the amount of labor involved. Our diagnostic service is $87.50 plus tax, and once we determine the cause of the issue, we'll discuss your options and provide pricing before moving forward with any repairs.

Our diagnostic fee includes up to 30 minutes of troubleshooting and evaluation by one of our technicians. We'll identify the problem, and then explain what's happening and recommend possible repair options. If additional work is needed, we'll discuss pricing and next steps before proceeding.  The diagnostic fee is due at dropoff, but any recommended work is optional and there is no obligation.

Yes. The diagnostic fee covers the technician's time spent evaluating and troubleshooting the issue. After we explain the problem and provide recommendations, you're free to decide whether or not you'd like to move forward with repairs.

In many cases, yes. A computer tune-up, hardware upgrade, virus removal, or repair can often extend the life of a computer for years. If we believe replacement makes more sense than repair, we'll tell you honestly and help you make an informed decision.  We often have both refurbished and new PCs and laptops available for purchase, or we can make online recommendations for something more custom.

Yes. We replace broken, cracked, flickering, and damaged laptop screens on many popular laptop brands. If your screen is physically damaged or no longer displaying properly, simply bring it into our repair shop and we'll determine whether a screen replacement is the best solution.

Yes. We repair most brands of laptops and desktop computers, including hardware problems, startup issues, virus infections, slow performance, broken screens, charging problems, data recovery, and more.

Yes. We provide support for both Windows PCs and Apple computers, including MacBooks and iMacs. Whether you're experiencing software issues, performance problems, data transfer needs, or hardware concerns, our technicians can help determine the best solution.  Please note, we do not repair phone screens.

No. We specialize in computer and laptop repair, including virus removal, data recovery, hardware repairs, upgrades, and technology support. We do not currently offer cell phone or smartphone repair services. If you're unsure whether we work on a specific device, feel free to give us a call.

Yes. We can help with custom gaming PC builds, hardware upgrades, graphics card installations, memory upgrades, storage upgrades, cooling improvements, and performance optimization. Whether you're building a new gaming system or improving an existing one, we'll help you choose components that fit your goals and budget.

Data Recovery & File Safety

We already recommend having a personal backup of critical data.  That said, protecting your data is one of our top priorities, and we'll discuss any risks before performing repairs. Whether you're dealing with a slow computer, virus infection, hardware failure, or startup issue, we'll recommend the safest approach for protecting important files, photos, and documents.

Often, yes. The chances of recovering deleted files depend on how the files were lost and what has happened to the computer since then. The sooner you stop using the device and bring it in, the better the chances of a successful recovery.

In many cases, yes. Even if a computer won't turn on, the hard drive or storage device may still contain recoverable photos, documents, and other important files. Our technicians can evaluate the device and determine what recovery options are available.  And if we can't recover your data in-house, we have a partner we escalate to.

Absolutely. We regularly transfer files, photos, documents, email, and other important data from old computers to new ones. We can also help set up your new computer and make the transition as smooth as possible.

Sometimes. The success of hard drive recovery depends on the type and severity of the failure. We can evaluate the drive and attempt recovery in-house, and for more advanced cases, we work with professional data recovery specialists such as Gillware.

Don't panic. A computer that won't power on doesn't automatically mean your files are lost. The problem could be related to the power supply, battery, motherboard, storage device, or another component. Our technicians can diagnose the issue and explain your repair and data recovery options.

If we determine that your data cannot be recovered in-house, we'll explain the situation and discuss whether professional recovery services may be a good next step. We'll always be honest about the chances of success and help you make an informed decision before spending additional money.

Viruses, Scams, and Hacked Computers

Common signs of a computer virus or malware infection include unexpected pop-ups, slow performance, browser redirects, suspicious error messages, unwanted software, or accounts being accessed without your permission. If your computer suddenly starts behaving differently or displaying fake security warnings, it's a good idea to have it checked by a professional computer repair technician.

Yes. We regularly remove viruses, malware, spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and other malicious software from both laptops and desktop computers. Our virus removal services are designed to eliminate infections, improve performance, and help secure your computer against future threats.

If you believe your computer, email account, Facebook account, or other online account has been hacked, stop using the affected device or account if possible and contact us as soon as possible. The sooner we can evaluate the situation, the better the chances of securing your accounts, removing malicious software, and preventing additional damage.

Yes. We can often help customers recover access to compromised email accounts, reset passwords, review security settings, and identify signs of unauthorized access. We also help secure related devices to reduce the risk of future account compromises.

Don't panic. Clicking a suspicious link doesn't automatically mean your computer is infected, but it can increase the risk of malware infections, phishing attacks, or account compromise. If you're concerned, bring your computer in for a security check so we can look for signs of malware, suspicious activity, or unauthorized software.

Full-screen Microsoft warning pop-ups claiming your computer is infected, hacked, or locked are scams. **Microsoft will never call you!** These fake virus alerts are designed to scare users into calling fraudulent support numbers or granting remote access to scammers. If you're unsure whether a warning is legitimate, close the browser if possible and contact a trusted computer repair professional.

Absolutely. Removing the virus is only part of the process. We can help install antivirus protection, perform security updates, remove unwanted software, secure accounts, and recommend best practices to help protect your computer from future viruses, malware infections, phishing scams, and online threats.
